Immersion in the Gospel according to Saint Mark
NEW SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY
Beginning Sunday, January 19, we will begin a discussion of the Gospel according to Mark which will continue each Sunday through the Season of Epiphany and the Season of Lent. For this study, we will use an immersion method of reading and discussing the Gospel. Each week, we will read the assigned chapter(s) of the Gospel multiple times in preparation for our discussion on Sunday. Please read the chapter(s) at least 3 to 4 times during the week.
Some tips: The first time through, read the chapter(s) without pen or highlighter in hand. Just read it. Subsequent readings can involve notes or highlighting or commentaries or whatever. Also, I suggest reading the text at least one time out loud. This engages multiple parts of the brain and aids in reading comprehension. Walking or standing while reading is also a good way to stay focused.
The reading and discussion schedule is as follows:
January 19: Mark 1 and 2
January 26: Mark 3
February 2: Mark 4
February 9: Mark 5
February 16: Mark 6
February 23: Mark 7
March 2: Mark 8
March 5: ASH WEDNESDAY
March 9: Mark 9
March 16: Mark 10
March 23: Mark 11
March 30: Mark 12
April 6: Mark 13
April 13: SUNDAY OF THE PASSION - PALM SUNDAY - Special Sunday Program
Holy Week: April 13 - 19 Read and Meditate on Mark 14 and 15
April 20: SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION - Special Sunday Program
Easter Week: April 20 - 26 Read and Meditate on Mark 16
I pray that this study will bless us all with a desire to live the Word of Jesus Christ all the more fully each and every day.
